New Window Treatments

One of the easiest ways to make a dramatic difference in the way a room in your home looks is to change the window treatments. Likely the best thing about using window treatments to alter the look of any room in your home is the huge amount of options it presents you with. Whether you want a classic and traditional look, something contemporary and modern, or a funky, upbeat look, your window treatments can really enhance the look and feel of a room.

Stylish Window Treatments That WORK

Drapes are one of the most common types of window treatments. They come in so many different fabrics, textures, colors, and styles, it is impossible not to find something that fits your needs, regardless of your budget or decorating skills. Draperies in inexpensive fabrics can look just as rich and expensive as draperies that actually ARE rich and expensive, so you can achieve a great, posh look without spending a ton of cash by shopping carefully and paying attention to the details.

An interesting thing that you can make your drapes do for you is to have them create something like an optical illusion in your room. For example, you can style your windows to look larger than they are, if you feel they are not wide enough or big enough, by mounting the curtain rod so that it extends away from the edges of the window’s frame. When you do this, you will need to make sure you have enough fabric in your chosen drapes to cover the sections of the wall, though – make sure that when you pull your curtains open to let the light in, the edges of the drapes at least meet the edges of the window frames. Having a gap between the edges of the curtain and the window frame will ruin the optical illusion, so measure carefully!

If you are going to go for the optical illusion tip above, then it is a good idea to get some great hardware to make the whole window look its best. Your choice will depend on the look of your room, of course. For a modern or contemporary look, try sleek chrome or another shiny metal for the curtain rod. If your look is more baroque, brass curtain rods with intricate scrollwork or other patterns on the finials (the caps on either end of the curtain rod, which can be plain or decorative) will add the level of detail that a baroquely decorated room requires.

When you combine a great set of drapes with the perfect matching hardware accents, you get a window look that is polished and pulled together, and adds a special touch of your style to whatever room you put them in. So with that in mind, whatever look you decide to go with, your new window treatments are definitely going to mix things up, and freshening up your décor in this way will give you a completed project you can feel proud about.
