Window Treatments in Madison, Wisconsin

If you are looking for a change for your home’s décor, one of the easiest ways to make a dramatic difference is to put up new window treatments. Since our windows often take up quite a lot of room on our walls, changing what covers them can therefore make a big impact and even totally transform the whole feel of the room without having to make any other adjustments to the décor.

Window Treatments for Form and Function

The best thing about using window treatments to alter the look of any room in your home is that you have so many different options to choose from. You have utilitarian options like Venetian blinds, you have the decorative options like drapes, and about a million choices in between. The choice you make for yours should take into consideration several factors: the décor of the room, the size of the window, the shape of the window, and your budget.

Drapes and curtains are certainly the classic option, but “classic” does not have to mean “dated” or “outmoded.” Using fabric in unexpected colors, textures or materials will liven up a room in a major way. For example, you can use sheers – the type of panels that are almost, but not quite, transparent – in alternating colors or layers. If you are concerned about the sheer fabrics negatively impacting the level of privacy in your home, simply add some Venetian or rice paper blinds underneath to add an extra barrier for any potential prying eyes. As a slightly different approach, layering a brightly colored sheer underneath a more somber colored solid fabric panel will add an interesting visual pop without going too overboard.

For hardware, you can choose a sleek metal rod and rings for a modern look, or choose a bamboo or other type of wood pole to achieve a more rustic look. Tab-top curtains are popular right now, and they eliminate the need for rings or threading your curtain rod through that common solid tube of fabric at the top of your drapes. The tabs are spaced out evenly along the top hem of the drape, and once they are slid onto the curtain rod properly, you will be able to see alternating portions of the curtain rod itself between the tabs. This is an ideal choice if the rod you have chosen is more decorative than the standard painted metal fare.

Another exciting thing drapery offers is its ability to create something like an optical illusion in your room. For example, if you feel your windows are on the narrow side, you can make them appear larger by installing a longer curtain rod that extends farther away from the edges of your window frame. When you slide the drapery onto it, it will create the illusion of a larger window inside the house. You can also place the curtain rod higher up from the top of the window frame to create the illusion of a higher ceiling. Letting the drapes puddle on the floor is an elegant touch to complete the look.

Whatever you choose to do, your new window treatments are certain to change up the look of your Madison home, and freshening up your décor will give you a completed project you can feel proud about.
