New Window Treatment Hardware

For anyone that is redecorating a room – whether you are redoing the whole look of the room, or just want to swap out the curtains – window treatments are a big piece of the design puzzle. While you will undoubtedly spend a lot of time in selecting the style, fabrics, and colors you want to use for your new curtains, an equally important component decision involves the type of hardware you want to use. For as many different kinds of draperies out there, there are an equal amount of hardware options available to help you complete your look. The importance of the hardware you choose should not be overlooked here, because the right curtain tracks can really take the way your new window treatments look and boost the style factor up to the next level.

Curtain Tracks: Which is Right For Me?

The hardware component that actually holds your curtains or draperies up comes in two basic styles: the curtain track and the curtain rod. In both cases, the pieces are affixed to the wall at the top of the window, and you hang your drapes from it. With curtain tracks, you have a few different options to choose from, depending on what style of window you have. Flexible curtain tracks are available for purchase, and these tracks are ideal if you are looking to put up a window treatment on a window that has a shaped frame, particularly at the top. Many windows are just straight across, but those windows that are curved at the top, like bay or bow windows, present a different challenge if you want your drapes to follow the curve of the window frame. Flexible curtain tracks are usually made of strong PVC, so you can arc and bend them as needed to fit your window frame.

Extendable curtain tracks are the most common kind found in American homes nowadays. You can buy them in many different sizes, and their popularity comes from the fact that they can then be adjusted in or out to fit your window. You can get them in both hand and cord drawn styles, and your curtains can be attached with hooks or slid over the track itself. They are usually made of metal and painted neutral colors. Fixed curtain tracks work the same way, but are usually the kid of track you get when you have had your drapes custom made. They do not need the ability to extend or retract because they will be created to fit your window perfectly.

You can also get curtain tracks that can be attached to the ceiling to provide more support for heavier draperies, or if you have tall windows that extend to the ceiling itself. They can be installed in such a way as to be hidden from view, if you like, or visible to anyone in the room. No matter what your room looks like, what décor the room has, or what your budget is, there is a curtain track out there that will suit your needs perfectly.
