Window Treatments in Brookfield

Window treatments are a great way to add style and personality to any room in your home. One of the most popular window treatment styles are certainly drapes, but blinds and shutters are also a very popular choice due to their classic styling and versatility. Made from plastic, wood, metal and even fabric, window blinds offer you an easy way to control the amount of light you let into your home and provide you with the privacy you need to feel secure and comfortable in your home.

Window Blinds for the Savvy Decorator

Window blinds are a smart choice to go with for your window treatments, because they are so versatile. You can hang them on their own or use them with curtains or drapery, and either way, you will find a set of blinds that will accent the décor of any room in your home. But let’s start with the basics:

Window blinds are window treatments and coverings made of rigid strips of material. They are primarily used to obscure things or people from view, hence the name “blinds.” There are two main types of window blinds. You will find solid blinds, which are also referred to as shades, and slat blinds available on the market.

Slat blinds are made of long strips of material. The strips – the slats – can be made of many different materials, like vinyl, plastic, wood, or stiffened fabric. The slats can be hung horizontally, as in Venetian blinds or mini blinds, where they are suspended on cords threaded through at each end of the slats, and connected together that way. These blinds can also usually be drawn completely up to leave the whole window uncovered, and the slats can be manipulated to control the amount of light that is let into the room.

The slats in slat blinds can also be hung vertically, and those vertical blinds are also known as track blinds. The slats are hung from one end from the track and drawn open and closed like a curtain, and like the horizontal blinds, the slats themselves can be manipulated to control the amount of light you let in or block out.

Solid blinds and shades work a little differently. These blinds are made from a single piece of material - often fabric or paper - that is hung horizontally and can be rolled up or down at your discretion. Some solid blinds, as in the case of pleated shades, have slats built into them, but the difference is that in slat blinds, there are gaps between the slats, and in a pleated shade, the gaps are filled with the fabric or paper the shade is made from.

Whether you decide to go with a pleated shade or Venetian blind, a roller shade or a mini blind, you will love the benefits your window blinds bring to your Brookfield home – privacy, a way to control sunlight, added insulation for your windows, and a classic look that fits well in any décor, from contemporary to traditional.
